MINI-SOCCER ADVANTAGES

The following is what we feel is achieved in the game of soccer for children when we reduce the number of players, the size of the ball and goal and the size of the field. Follow this link to the Condensed Rules.

Reduce the number of players

  • more time with the coach

  • more practical space to operate within

  • more contact with the ball

  • more realistic approach to playing responsibilities such as position

  • more rapid change from offence to defense

  • research shows that children run just as much

Reduce the size of the ball

  • less heavy

  • more readily headed

  • more easily trapped, controlled, kicked, thrown or dribbled

Reduce the size of the goal

  • it is absolutely impossible for a goalkeeper to realistically cover and 8 x 24 foot space when the goalkeeper is a child

  • the goal is reduced to maintain the approximate ratio between the size of the goal keeper and the size of the goal

  • the smaller goal makes players develop skills in position and shooting

Reduce the Size of the field

  • more restricted space and therefore more efficient use of space. Two games can be played in the space of a regular field

  • players  touch the ball more often

  • it takes less time to achieve a goal or to advance to the goal

  • along with the reduced numbers, children run just as much on the smaller field
