COACHING AND REFEREEING

Coaching                                                        

All coaches are parents of players at Volunteer Pool or past players in the club. Some have a background in soccer, most do not. Parent coaches will coach the team their child is playing on. You'll be out watching your child pay, so why not coach! There is a coaching clinic offered for parents who wish them. There are sign up sheets at the coach's meetings.  The clinic is held on Saturday, May 1.  The clinic is held at the Grandview Field site. Times will  be available at the coach's meetings. We like to have at least two parents coaching on any one team. Those parents uncomfortable as first time coaches may want to sign up as an assistant coach. If a coach is alone at the start, we supply at notice to parents on the team that this coach needs an assistant. Coaches usually are able to find an assistant in short order.

Coaches come out to a coach's meeting on April 28th  for all team coaches. The meeting is in the Hammarskjold High School Cafeteria starting at 6:30pm. It usually takes about an hour. Coaches get their rosters, uniforms and other information at that time. They then can start calling players.

Referees  

Referees in the mini-soccer divisions are parents of players in the divisions. We try to have at least one parent who is interested in refereeing on each team. Referees will referee only the games their child plays in. The rules for mini-soccer are relatively simple. There will be a copy of the condensed rules in the coach's package they get with the uniforms. The mini-soccer referee is really an on-field-coach, instructing players in what they did wrong and how to correct it. Sometimes coaches need to share the refereeing responsibilities if there is no one else. there is not a referee clinic for mini-soccer referees.

In the  Mosquitos, PeeWees and Bantams, we supply referees for the games. It is better to have an outside person at this level. These are paid positions.
