Everyone working in our club is a volunteer. We are not employees of the City of Thunder Bay or of Parks and Rec. We do not have paid coaches. Your children play only because you or some other parent is helping out in our program. Remember, if people don't help, children don't play.

Listed below are the various jobs that need to be done to run our club. Some take more or less time commitment. Very few require specialized skills and all are very important. Please take the time and look over the job descriptions below, consider picking something to help in and check it off on the registration form.

EXECUTIVE POSITIONS

The soccer club always has room for new people on the executive. As children eventually leave the club, so do their parents. At this time several of our Executive have children at the older age divisions.  We try to have executive members heading up divisions where their children are playing. The time consuming scheduling, team organizing and secretarial work are not done by the executive members. The executive meets before and during the season to make decisions on programme and organization. It is an enjoyable experience, especially when you realize what you are producing for the children. Call the club number at 343-0489 and an executive member will quickly get back to you.

COACH

Coaches are involved each game from early May until late June. Some coaches have practice time and some do not. If you are out watching your child play, why not coach? (You coach only your child's team.) Because coaching at the mini-soccer level is relatively easy, you will soon become comfortable running the team. Coaching clinics will be presented for those coaches who wish them. More information is available on the coaching/refereeing page.

ASSISTANT COACH

It is our intention that all teams have at least two coaches. This shares the workload better. If you feel a little nervous, you may want to work as an assistant first. You coach only your child's team. The time involvement is the same as a coach.

STUDENT COACH

Students looking for volunteer hours may coach. Student coaches will need an adult "supervisor" to assist them. This may be an adult they bring with them such as a parent or guardian or a parent of one of the players on the team they are coaching. Students wishing to coach should go to a registration night to talk to an executive member or contact the club at 343-0489.

STUDENT COACH SUPERVISOR

The Student Coach Supervisor is someone to support the Student Coach. This adult (usually a parent of a player) is not being asked to coach.  This person is bringing a parent's point of view and maturity to running the team. This person needs no soccer experience at all,  just a desire to see the players have an enjoyable and successful season.

 REFEREE

Parent referees are needed in the tykes, squirts and atom divisions. This is a good job for someone who cannot make it out every night but wants to get involved, especially if you are there watching your child anyway. The referee controls the game and therefore needs to learn the basic rules (supplied) and apply them fairly and evenly. The referee is an on-field coach instructing the players on what was done wrong and how to correct it. Mini-soccer rules are quite simple and you referee only your child's games. More information is available on the coaching/refereeing page.

FESTIVAL COORDINATOR

A member of the Executive usually becomes the Festival Coordinator. They could use someone who would take on the Prize coordinating position. This is a job in itself. The Festival is a very big job and they need many helpers.

FESTIVAL HELP

Except for a couple of jobs, this involves just the day of the festival. There are a variety of jobs to do to make the event a success. There are jobs such as organizing, serving food, etc. You may specify a job or leave it open to what is needed at the time. Call the club number at 343-0489 and leave a message if you are able to help.

SEASON STARTUP

Getting set up to start the season is very important. There are a number of jobs that must be done and can usually be done on one day. These include initial lining of fields, preparing and transporting nets to the fields and others. A number of people helping make these jobs easy and quick. Anyone who could volunteer a ½ ton truck would also be appreciated.

FIELD COORDINATOR

These jobs are so important to running a division that we make them paid positions. The job needs no major knowledge of soccer, but the field coordinators will be expected to be at all games in a division, at all times. Field coordinators are the contact between the field and the club organizers. They unlock the door to allow coaches to get the nets, hand out materials to the coaches and line fields among other things. This position could be handled by a responsible high school student 16 or older, or a parent who is available for the necessary times. Field Coordinators will be paid $7 an hour. Depending on the site being coordinated, times would range from 2 to 32 hours a night. To apply for one of these positions, come to any one of the registration nights and fill out an application form. Contact the club's number (343-0489) if you would like more information.
