WHO WE ARE

Volunteer Pool has sponsored soccer teams for many years. In the past however, there were probably never more than 50 or 60 players at any one time. All the soccer played, at any age, was regulation full-size soccer. About 1981, we decided to start to play mini-soccer with younger players up to age 10. Mini-soccer was suggested as a better style of play for younger children by the Ontario Soccer Association, but there was not a lot of information available on the game at that time. With the help of Tom Doyle, a local resident and now Past-President of the OSA, we developed the rules we still use. The links to mini-soccer will give you more information about why we play mini-soccer and what we feel its advantages are.

That first year we had about 125 players (doubling our usual numbers), and two divisions. During the next two years our registration increased by almost 80 per year and then for several years by almost 100 per year. In the past we have had almost 2000 players in the club, although now with other clubs in the area and fewer children in families, we have about 600 players. In addition, we have about 100 parents coaching and another 40 or so doing other jobs. See the Helper Page for more information if you are interested in helping in the club.

Most of the success in the House League programme, we feel, is due to the orientation of the game to fit the players, and to the reduced emphasis on winning in favour of playing and having fun. This tradition is one that we believe in completely. Years of experience and success confirm we are on the right pathway. Welcome to Volunteer Pool Soccer Club.
